This week we continue talking about the issue of leadership.  This message together with last week’s is an addendum, not just to the Ephesians 5 passage about a husband’s leadership, but to Ephesians 6:1-4 where it gives instruction to parents, especially fathers, to be leading their children.  It is also a helpful appendix to Ephesians 6:5-9 when we talk about the relation between employers and employees. In Paul’s day, the institutions of marriage and family were in shambles.  Faithfulness to a spouse was becoming a novelty.  It didn’t seem to matter if you were a Jew, Greek, or Roman, you had ways to jettison any  marital commitment you may have made.  Even the idea of what a family consisted of was up for private interpretation.
