The Wonder of the Incarnation

The significance of Jesus’ birth is a vast ocean that cannot be contained in one sermon or even a series of sermons. Jesus and His glorious work of salvation on our behalf permeates every page of Scripture. This message seeks to highlight some of the key aspects of Christ coming to earth and becoming a man. Taken from Hebrews 2 it just skims some of the cream of the top of this glorious subject. I trust that you will be blessed as you grow in the knowledge of God’s wonderful work of salvation.

Shoebox Sunday!

Today is one of our favorite Sundays of the year.  For the past several weeks (and much longer for some) we have been packing Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes to send the love of Jesus to children around the world.  All the hard work and sacrificial spending of the church culminates on this day when we remember what we are doing and why, then spend time praying over the shoeboxes we packed.  We pray that God will put just the right shoebox into just the right child’s hands.  If you can’t be here in person for this special day, we hope …

The Hope of All People

It says in Proverbs 13:12 that “Hope deferred makes the heart sick”.  Have you ever experienced that, where you had high hopes, only to have the dashed at the last minute?   Maybe you have had this happen just this Christmas season. It really does drain our souls and make us feel empty, like when we have been physically sick. Living in a fallen world with fallen people all around us, disappointments are a reality.  Sometimes they are big, sometimes they are small.  Too many of them can really get us down and give us a pessimistic view of life; they …

To Save Us From Our Sins

Can you believe this is the week before Christmas?  We have been celebrating it here at First Baptist for the past couple of weeks and we continue this celebration in today’s service.  Join us as we enjoy a bell choir composed of 20 of our church kids, and then a Christmas program put on by kids both young and old.  We will finish by looking at Matthew 1:18-25 and be reminded of why we even celebrate Christmas.  All this along with singing together and fellowshipping together.   I hope you will come out and join us in person if at all …

Daughters of the King Ballet

The Nutcracker is a story of a battle between good and evil.  In Clara’s dream, she is thrown into a world where the evil mouse queen desires to rule the kingdom.  But Clara and the Nutcracker fight to restore goodness and peace to the land of sweets. While we know that the Nutcracker is a fictional fairytale, the battle between good and evil is very real.  The good news is that the end has already been determined, because Jesus conquered the enemy when He died on the cross to pay the price for our sin, and then came back to …

Trusting God While He Works His Plan

Trust has to be earned – correct?  Do you have a doctor you trust?  A mechanic or home contractor?  If you do, it is likely because they have earned your trust.  You have done business with them, or you know them, and they have proven themselves.  They have a reputation of doing what they promised; of knowing their stuff and keeping their word. In this sermon today, I hope to build your trust in God and His Word by showing how He does what He promises.  This message will connect some of the prophesies we looked at in previous sermons …

Dropping Hints Part 2 – Hope in the Darkness

Have you ever been on a treasure hunt?  A hunt where you follow a string of clues to eventually arrive at the treasure?  In the Old Testament of the Bible God has given us a treasure hunt of sorts.  Throughout the books of the Law, the Poetry and Wisdom books, and of course, the Prophets, God has laid down all kinds of clues, “hints”, of the coming Messiah.  In the book of Matthew, in the New Testament, we see some of these clues highlighted, but the real blessing is going back to the beginning and following the treasure hunt to …

Dropping Hints: Key Old Testament Prophecies of Messiah

Evil, pain, and suffering fill the pages of the Old Testament and all of human history.  Evil men commit evil acts that bring death and destruction.  Is there any hope in all that?  Can God bring good from that? Last week we began looking at the roots of the Christmas story and why it was needed.  We looked at the beginning of sin and suffering – how death entered God’s perfect creation.  In this message, we will continue to look stories of the after-effects of sin but also the redemption in them.   We will see the hope God brings not …
